Policy and the Scientific Enterprise: Building Bridges to Support Innovation and Education
A talk by Dr. Beth Russell a AAAS Fellow at National Science Foundation, highlighting the important role of collaboration and community building in science policy.
How would our world look without the influence of science on policy? What role does national policy play in guiding scientific discovery? Science and policy often appear as squabbling siblings but both are essential to driving discovery forward in America. From Moon landings to CRISPR, policy and science are intrinsically intertwined.
So what is science policy? How is it important and where does it happen? What can scientists and the public do to influence the future of science and promote data-driven legislation? This presentation and discussion will explain key components and players in how policy drives science and how science drives policy in the United State Government. In conjunction, we will discuss the ways that institutions, organizations, and individuals can get involved in science policy.
